If You Are Only Moved, 2013<\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

This poster is a result of research done at the RISD Museum that questions\u00a0the way that we engage with everyday narratives vs. those of coveted objects. The\u00a0first side, with a cutout frame set against visual tropes of a museum environment, unfolds to step through a Mark Rothko quote: \u201cIf you are only moved by color relationships then you miss the point. I\u2019m interested in expressing the big emotions\u2014tragedy,\u00a0ecstasy, doom.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

Side two unfolds\u00a0into an\u00a0everyday scene\u00a0where messages once were. The typographic chart diagrams the relationships and attributes of museum objects I researched, many of which were originally intended for a practical use before becoming viewed as art. What became most interesting to me was not just the act of art appreciation,\u00a0but to question what a society chooses to collect and invest in\u00a0vs. what\u00a0exists in the \u201cperipheral\u201d of this central focus. The photography is from my drive from Los Angeles to Providence, observing the current\u00a0economic\u00a0loss evident in sites across America.<\/p>\n
