This is an experiment that uses erasure on social media sites to parse out only the “action” words and color blocking of the site interface, leaving these elements in place. This invites questions and open interpretation. If we isolate the action terms in ads to reveal underlying connections, manipulations, sorts of poetry, or spatial compositions what does this space tell us? Additionally, what are we telling each other, and how does that expand the advertising language? Is anything critical revealed? Then what happens when sites are re-combined in layers?
This is inspired by Burrough’s Cut-Up projects, as a “cutting” methodology, a process that looks at language and “control mechanisms.”
