Scratch Dialogue, a pop-up participatory convos and collective “poster” at Otis College MFA/GD Art Book Fair

July 10, 2019

A participatory happening for short conversations with friends and strangers in a pop-up “living room” that existed in-between publishers and artist booths.

The idea is that folks could jump in to spontaneous conversations sparked by words they get to reveal by scratching off a card, then use the words as seeds to share stories and ideas and inspiration, finding common ground about what matters to them in the moment. Maybe with a friend, maybe with a stranger, maybe more than once. Visitors can then add their selected words to a collective poster-wall, and create new scratch-offs with their own words for the next group. There was a mix of students, teachers, family members, friends and international design leaders to level the playing field of topics of sharing, debate and discovery.
