the Criticality of Queer Craft, LA Design Festival

September 16, 2023

I was invited to create a panel for the LA Design Festival: Design for The People, so in around 10 days The Criticality of Queer Craft happened! This was an intimate conversation about work, stories, beauty and resistance in Queer design with Carol A. Wells, founder of the Center for the Study of Political Graphics and  Carolina Ibarra-Mendoza, Chicana Feminist Designer.

Our panel shared and looked at past and present work, by ourselves and others, that embodies innovation and activates change through diverse ways of creating, while making space in critical ways. It was a unique opportunity to amplify our voices, celebrate diversity, and make a difference through design. The dislogue between us and the audience invited discovery of how our work, stories, and resistance shape the Queer design landscape, as we engage in meaningful dialogue and create a more inclusive future. It was an honor to share ideas and questions with Carol and Carolina.
